Sky Rise's Sylvester Ryan Accepts Largest Gift Ever for Plymouth Friends of the Council on Aging
June 2006
Dedication and persistence paid off for The Friends of the Plymouth Council on Aging, which received $8,000 — the largest amount raised in the organization's existence — to fund their programs for the senior citizens of Plymouth thanks in part to Sylvester Ryan.
Ryan and Raquel Mullaney accepted the A.D. Makepeace Neighborhood Fund grant check in the amount of $8,000 for The Friends for the Plymouth Council on Aging this June. Ryan and Mullaney volunteered their time to write the grant on behalf of the local non-profit organization to fund Elder Care Educational Seminars. The money will be used to pay trainers and purchase multimedia equipment for the seminars.
Ryan was approached in March of 2006 to assist the Friends for the Plymouth Council on Aging with fundraising activities. Ryan stated "the
next day, I spoke with Denis Hanks, Executive Director, Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and told him of my new mission to assist 'The Friends'." Hanks immediately pulled out a grant application from the A.D. Makepeace Neighborhood Foundation and instructed that the grant was due within a week but there was time to get it in if immediate action was taken. Ryan
emailed key members of The Friends of the Plymouth Council on Aging asking for input as to what this grant could be used for. Board Member Raquel Mullaney of Comfort Keepers & Senior Health Services spoke with Ryan and offered her assistance. Mullaney and Ryan collaborated
at the Comfort Keeper Headquarters where they decided to make the deadline.
